How has the MSTI Program helped you?
It’s given me a chance to explore the field of education by giving me time in a classroom. I get hands-on experience in different classrooms, grades and with different teachers so I can see first hand how they run their classrooms. I can see how they deal with their students, their coworkers. I can ask questions and get feedback from people actually doing the work. I can’t tell you how happy I was to find this program. I will definitely be better prepared and more confident when I get my own classroom thanks to the MSTI program.

What keeps you motivated and positive throughout life’s hardships?
At the moment my son James

What advice would you like to give to your fellow scholars?
As someone who is doing this a little later than most, I would say don’t worry if you don’t have it all figured out. Don’t worry if you’re having doubts, don’t worry if you need more time than others, it all works out in the end. I wanted to teach high school science when I left high school, I love science but the classes were tough and I’m not good at math and I was just frustrated. So, I got my associates and called it quits. At the time I couldn’t think of anything else I wanted to teach enough to stay in school and I didn’t think I had the patience for elementary school. 20 something years later here I am trying again but this time going for elementary school. Being a mom has helped me realize it’s what I really want to do. Maybe it takes you a little longer to figure it out, but once you do, you’ll be more confident and comfortable with your decision.

What are your plans after graduation?
Hopefully take a nice vacation then find a teaching job close to home
