What is your current status?
I am a 7th grade integrated science teacher at Wilmington Middle School (go jaguars ๐ woot woot!). This is my second year teaching (but I count it as my first year because last year was distance learning ๐). Last year I taught 8th grade and was the 8th grade science lead. I am one of the teachers in charge of the Green Club where we are raising awareness about environmental racism, environmental issues, and restoration/conservation. We want to make our campus beautiful with gardens and teach our students to be hands-on and environmentalists.
What do you enjoy the most about your current status?
I enjoy forming relationships with my students and teaching things about science. I like how they take in my excitement and appreciation for science ๐ค. I love how they are curious about the world they live in. I enjoy being there for my students as a mentor and a role model.
If you could give your junior/senior year self any words of advice what would you say?
If I could give my junior/senior self some advice it would be to be as involved in CSI3 activities as possible and really take advantage of their opportunities and guidance. Most importantly when TA'ing taking control of the classroom, teaching more, and lesson planning practice. Also, probably to not stress because it all worked out in the end as planned or better than I thought. ๐
What has been one of the biggest lessons you have learned upon graduating?
One of the biggest lessons I have learned since graduating is to not be afraid to voice your opinions and be a go-getter for what you want. Even though you are a new teacher you still bring valuable things and perspective to the table.
What keeps you motivated and positive throughout lifeโs hardships?
What keeps me motivated is knowing Iโm Ms. Brown ๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ซ and in charge of 140+ kids and will impact their lives in some form. And of course seeing them everyday and having fun while learning. You canโt help but to love ๐ฅฐyour kids even the ones that may drive you up the walls some days.
Is there anyone from the CSI3 program you would like to thank or give a shout out to?
I would like to give a shout-out to Noemi for getting me in the program and pushing me to become a teacher. She was a great mentor. I would also like to give a shout out to Laura who helped me with learning about the responsibility that comes with managing students and events. She is a hard working woman like myself. I would like to give a shout out to my master teacher Ms. Kwon for teaching me everything and preparing me to teach on my own. And also the whole CSI3 crew for helping me become the teacher I am today.
