How has the MSTI program helped you?
The MSTI program has already helped me in numerous ways in such a short time. I have been to most of the workshops and attended a conference with such inspirational guest speakers of teachers who spoke on a topic that was personal to me as it was one of my reasons for going into the profession of teaching and was a reminder of why I'm so passionate about the career I am pursuing currently.

What keeps you motivated and positive throughout life's hardships?
During hardships, I leaned on my friends because any time I was having a tough day they were always the people I turned to brighten my day with food and a good laugh. I look towards my family to help me escape from the stress of school and work and focus on the most important part of life, creating memories with my loved ones. I lean toward my roommates who always lend an ear to hear about my conflicts about teaching high schoolers, as is my job in the MSTI program. This helps me because I am new to the profession and the MSTI program has dipped my toe into this challenging profession. The motivation comes from when I speak to my peers, as they tell me to always stick to my beliefs. My belief is that no matter what or where you come from, knowledge is power.

What advice would you like to give to your fellow scholars?
Take the time to get to know your students one on one when you get the chance because you'd be surprised by what goes on in their lives and the hardship they go through outside of the classroom. This was one key takeaway I took from the conference, relating to one's students to try to get them more engaged in the class. It is worth taking the time to ask them one on one how they're doing because I feel as though I can see from their perspective how engaged they are in the classroom.

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan on traveling to new places every summer after graduation. I plan on returning to CSUDH to start their teaching credential program as the final step before becoming a teacher. I hope by then I know which area I would like to teach in, perhaps my own hometown.
